The current Internet marketing scenario leaves fewer options for organizations to be complacent with their marketing strategies. Five years before a website would be automatically located and visited, a scenario that has vastly changed. Now, companies have to strive to come into the limelight. This highly competitive scenario has fueled the growth of SEO or search engine optimization. Search engine optimization, the term, or the process refers to optimizing a website using efficient and ethical strategies so that it can rank high in search engines and be located by potential customers.

SEO is a highly specialized job. Most importantly, it is a continuous process where the changing behaviors of search engines need to be studied continuously. This is where SEO experts are invincible. Any organization that specializes in SEO services have sufficient knowledge about the behavior of search engines and what they look in a website to rank it high. SEO is not a static process and involves making strategic planning considering what changes the search engines are likely to incorporate in their algorithms.

If you are considering about hiring an SEO consultant for your website be very particular about what you require and what they provide. Various SEO consultants offer various types of SEO practices and the best way to proceed is to performing a survey before hiring.

If you are searching for SEO experts through the Internet, a few questions can help you a great deal.

First, try to find out how long the company is doing business. The more experienced the firm the more effective it is.

Second, of all SEO firms promising best results, only a handful is confident enough to display their success stories. In other words, always search their website to inquire about their previous projects, case studies, etc. this will give you knowledge about their performance.

SEO is a smart way of popularizing your website. However, the search engine is the final authority to decide which websites to rank. An SEO expert can no doubt popularize your website but can never guarantee top ranking.

These few steps can help you a great deal in selecting the appropriate SEO consultant who can really help you attain what you want to attain.

The New Yahoo Search Marketing

With Google leading the race for online marketing infrastructure, can Yahoo be far behind? The Yahoo Search Marketing tool is another very powerful tool for online marketing and is quite different from Google’s AdWords and AdSense. Yahoo Search Marketing is related to the vast number of portals and communities which come under the Yahoo umbrella. Within the Yahoo Search Marketing program, there are many options which can be customized to suit your requirement and the choice is dependant on the demographics of the customer you are looking for and your budget.

Overall, Yahoo Search Marketing is more sales oriented as one of the best features in the program is to get listed in the Yahoo Products database. If you have a product which you want to sell then it is an excellent idea to get listed here as you will then become accessible to a very large customer base. It comes as no surprise that Yahoo Search Marketing has been around for quite some time as Overture before merging with Yahoo and more recently changing it’s name.

Some of the options for advertising which exist with Yahoo Search Marketing is the listing in the products database, the regional (Yahoo Local) database, Yahoo Travel directory and the very well known Sponsored Search Option. Such a wide range of advertising platform choices is easy for the entrepreneur as he or she can pick a Yahoo property which suits their business best.

In case your budget for online marketing exceeds ten thousand dollars, you can garner the support of Yahoo professionals and get them to develop a customized program on how to spend this advertising budget in the best possible way in order to get valuable results. Critics may not favor Yahoo Search Marketing due to its limited range of web sites on which it can advertise or not find the system very democratic, but it is obvious that this online marketing program has many dedicated users!

Holistic Search Engine Optimization

We all have heard that search engines are the number one resource for consumers to research and buy products or services online. In fact, marketing studies have shown that over 70% of web surfers use search engines to locate online merchants. The ramification of this statistic is simple: if you want to reach the members of your target market you need to make sure that your business web site appears in popular search engines.

Search engine optimization (SEO) can help you achieve this. SEO is a crucial online marketing technique. It helps you to get your web site to appear in search engine result pages (SERPs) for keywords that that are relevant to your business. For example, if you are a business coach, and someone is searching for “business coach”, it would be great for your business if your web site appears in the first 10 results.

So what exactly is search engine optimization? SEO includes selecting the best keywords for the body of the page as well as other page elements (the title tag, keyword and description meta tags, etc.) Carefully chosen keywords provide “hints” that search engines use to classify your site and to determine whether your site should appear for certain search keywords. On-page keyword optimization by itself will help your rankings. However, holistic search engine optimization is required to achieve optimal results. For the best placement, focus on SEO as a whole, rather than concentrate on a particular technique.

Here are a few important elements of holistic search engine optimization:

* Have good content. After all, content is king (or queen, whichever the case may be). Without content there isn’t much of a site. The content must walk a fine line between providing useful content and including sufficient and relevant keywords for search engines.

Often it is difficult to optimize your product or service pages for search engines, since the main goal of these items is to showcase the benefits of your offer. On the other hand, it is easier to optimize blog posts and articles. In fact, you can create entire articles and blog posts around keywords that are popular with your target market.

* Have consistent navigation. Both your web site visitors and search engine spiders navigate your web site through links that connect different pages. Consistent navigation ensures that your visitors can reach every page on your web site from every other page. On top of that, you will you get the most out of your search engine optimization efforts.

* Get links to your site. Links to your web site play a very important role in holistic search engine optimization. Many popular search engines evaluate your web site’s popularity based on counting the number of links that point to your site. The more popular your web site is, the better rankings it gets on search engines. The best links are links from reputable, quality web site that have complimentary or related content.

You can get links to your web site by using a variety of techniques, such as writing articles, participating in link exchanges, and participating in online networking.

Take a holistic approach to web site optimization. Apply SEO to your web site as a whole, and always evaluate the overall impact of your marketing efforts.

Seven Red Hot Tips for Linking

1. Vary the keywords in your link ‘anchor’ text

Unless you provide only one product or service the chances are you will want to rank for many key phrases. One way to help achieve this objective is to change the link text you want all new sites to use periodically. Vary the anchor text slightly each time and by doing so you can cover more of your targeted key phrases. This approach can help your site rank for many keywords rather than just one or two.

If you do only provide one product or service on your web site it is still important to vary anchor text. If you sell ‘blue widgets’ then you could also use link text like ‘cheap blue widgets’ or ‘blue widget store’. This means your links take on a more natural feel and are much less likely to be penalised or filtered out by search engines for being ‘fake links’.

2. Set up your link information differently – create a link in context

Typically people set up their link information in a very similar way, however you could offer your link information with the hyperlink inside the description instead of at the beginning.

Imagine this is a description about your web site on a partner’s link page. Instead of a typical hyperlink followed by a description you could write a sentence describing your web site and then place “your descriptive hyperlink” inside it.

One reason for doing this is that it reads more naturally and search engines may value the link higher as it reads more like a narrative. Many webmasters will be happy to accept this style even if some do not. To cover yourself offer the link in context as a second option along with your regular link information, that way if some sites can’t support the layout you still get your link.

3. Vary where your links point

Try to vary where link partners point to on your site. It’s fine to have the majority of links pointing into your home page, however it can be beneficial to have some links pointing to other key pages on your web site as well. Taking this approach balances out your linking and can help raise the profile of more pages on your web site.

4. How to find potential link partners from your competitors

If a web site links to your competitors it may also link to yours, and in order to find these potential link partners you can use search engines. Not so long ago Google was useful for getting a lot of back link information about a site. Recently Google’s back link data is a lot less forthcoming and it now tends to show only a tiny percentage of the sites that are linking combined with a lot of internal link data. Whether the few web sites Google shows us are the ones it finds important or whether they are in fact red herrings we cannot say for certain. I would assume the latter.

Currently Yahoo is a better portal to check for backlinks. To generate a list of linking web sites on Yahoo simply go to http://www.yahoo.com and type the following into the Yahoo search bar.

linkdomain:www.mycompetitorwebsite.com

This will deliver up to date link information as read by Yahoo. The only downside with the information is that one site may appear many times if it is giving multiple links.

5. Alternate your description text

This is often overlooked, but there is no real advantage to be had if the description text supporting your inbound links is always identical. To avoid the possibility of a description ever being seen as ‘duplicate content’ alternate it when you can. If you combine it with varied anchor text [as in tip 1] you’re heading in the right direction.

6. Link to good related content from your web site

It seems like an obvious thing to say, but with so many people caught up in link exchanging you sometimes wonder if we’re losing site of the basics. If you have something useful to say on your site and can back it up with a useful link to another web site then do so. Not every link has to be reciprocated. This resourceful linking will allow your visitors to read around the subject. Linking to informative related content is useful for visitors and search engines quite like it too.

7. Seek out directory links

Links from good web directories can be some of the best links you can get for your web site. Aaron Wall has a ‘directory of directories’ at http://www.directoryarchives.com where you will find a great selection of search engine friendly directories. Some of the directories are free to get listed in whilst others may charge a fee.

Do the Search Engines Know Your Website?

Are you considering a search engine promotion campaign to improve your website’s search engine visibility? To aid in your decision, have you checked your website to determine its search engine awareness?

Perhaps you may be thinking why do I need to check my website? Do you remember going to the doctor for an illness? Hopefully, your doctor performed some tests to diagnose your illness before prescribing your medication. If not, you may have gotten some very undesirable results. In the case of your website, you need to diagnose the patient and determine the extent of your website’s search engine visibility. Based on your findings, you can decide to focus on standard search results or paid search results.

Your checks should be done in the Google and Yahoo search engines since they are the major search engines in today’s marketplace. As an option, you should consider MSN since they have recently released their search engine. It is only a matter of time before they are considered a player, if not already. Your first check determines if your website is indexed in Google or Yahoo. Think about the card catalog in your library. Each book has a card in the card catalog signifying the indexing of the book in the library. In this exercise you’ll check if your website has a “card” in the Google or Yahoo card catalog.

The first exercise is opening your web browser to the Google – www.google.com, Yahoo – www.yahoo.com or MSN – www.msn.com website. Enter your website’s URL, www.yourdomainname.com, in the search box and review the search results. Your website’s domain name or URL should appear in the search results if your site is indexed.

If just the domain name or URL is listed, the website has been indexed but not crawled by the search engine spider. A domain name and several lines of descriptive text indicate the website has been crawled by the search engine spider to determine the website’s content. Also, look for the link “Cached Page” or a similar phrase. This is another indication the website has been crawled for content by the search engine. Now, you should know if your website is indexed and has a “card” in the search engine card catalog. Your second check evaluates the extent of your website’s indexing by determining which website pages are indexed by the respective search engine.

The second exercise is opening your web browser to the Google, Yahoo or MSN website. Enter the “site” command and your website’s URL in the search box in the format “site:www.yourdomainname.com” (quotation marks not required) and review the search results. All of your website’s pages indexed by the queried search engine should be listed. At the top of the search results screen look for “Results X – Y of about Z from www.yourdomainname.com” or a similar phrase. The value for Z indicates the total number of pages indexed by the queried search engine for your website.

In addition, you might see the comment “repeat the search with the omitted results included” in the results listing. Since the search engine does not always show the entire listing, you can click the link and view the complete list of your website’s indexed pages. Your third check determines the number of inbound links from other websites to your website. The number of inbound links is very important in the ranking algorithms of many of the search engines. The commands for this exercise are slightly different between the search engines. We’ll review the commands for the three major search engines. The other search engines have similar commands.

Google & MSN

Open your web browser to the Google or MSN website. Enter the “link” command and your website’s URL in the search box in the format “link: www.yourdomainname.com” (quotation marks not required) and review the search results.

All the external website pages linked to your website and indexed by the queried search engine should be listed. At the top of the search results screen look for “Results X – Y of Z linking to www.yourdomainname.com” or a similar phrase. The value for Z indicates the total number of externally linked pages to your website.

Yahoo

Open your web browser and go to the Yahoo website. Enter the “linkdomain” and “-site” command and your website’s URL in the search box in the format “linkdomain:www.yourdomainname.com -site:www.yourdomainname.com” (quotation marks not required). The “-site” command is used exclude the internally linked website pages from the results.

Review the search results. All the external website pages linked to your website and indexed by Yahoo should be listed. At the top right of the search results screen look for “Results X – Y of Z linking to www.yourdomainname.com.” The value for Z indicates the total number of externally linked pages to your website.

Do not be alarmed if the displayed results from Yahoo and MSN are significantly different from Google. Recently, Google began displaying limited or no results from the “link” command. The general conclusion from the search engine optimization community was that Google felt disclosing the link information might possibly share too much information regarding their ranking algorithm and its impact on a specific website. From these three simple checks you should have determined if the search engines know the existence of your website and be prepared to select the proper search engine promotion campaign. A pay-per-click search engine campaign would be a good choice if your website’s search engine visibility is limited and the time deadline to achieve your desired search engine rankings is short. If the time to achieve the desired search engine rankings is not critical to your website’s marketing plans, then a search engine optimization campaign to improve the standard search results could be a logical decision.

THE ABCs OF SEO – Search Engine Optimization

If you want to be found in the search engines, it is important that you add search engine optimization to your action list. In a nutshell, search engine optimization–or SEO for short–is the process of making your web pages “search engine friendly.”

SEO is a relatively new marketing industry. Although there are many purported experts, most of us who call ourselves SEO specialists are learning. The search engines are constantly in flux, so SEO techniques that worked yesterday may not necessarily work tomorrow. As a result, it is exceedingly important to keep up with the fervent pace of the Internet, and the search engines in particular.

One of the frustrations of search engine placement is that your rankings are constantly fluctuating. The key to a successful search engine optimization campaign is creativity, perseverance and practice, practice, practice. Do not try to fool the search engines by “tricking” them with unsavory techniques (e.g., keyword stuffing, cloaking, hidden text) because you will risk having your web site lose favor with the search engines, or worse, getting banned altogether.

If you are developing a new web site or redesigning an old one, now is a good time to think about search engine optimization. This article will describe the process of optimizing your web pages for the search engines, as well as highlight some of the other components that are important for a successful search engine marketing campaign.

WRITING KEYWORD-RICH WEB COPY

I’m sure you’ve heard the old cliché: Content is king. Well, you know what, it is! Although the Internet is graphic-rich, it is a text-based medium. Information is what your visitors are seeking. If you web site doesn’t present the information they want, don’t forget your competitor’s web site is only one mouse click away.

Search engines need copy to know what your web site’s theme is and how your site should be indexed in their directory. If your home page consists solely of a Flash movie or an image map, there will be nothing for the search engines to index. Flash is cool, but it is not so cool when your web site doesn’t come up in search engine results.

So, how do you write keyword-rich copy?

The first thing you need to do is identify the keyword phrases that are important and relevant to your web site. For instance, how would you describe your company, products and services? More importantly, how would your visitors describe your company, products and services? Although the answer may seem like a no- brainer, it really isn’t, because you need to think outside of the box. You need to get into your visitor’s head and think like your visitor. What search terms would they use to find your web site?

A good place to start your keyword research is by looking at your log files. What search terms are your visitors using to find you? Armed with this information, you can begin researching the popularity of those terms. Researching your keywords is a very important task, because if you target the wrong terms, your traffic will suffer. Although your site may rank number one for some obscure term, if no one is searching for that term, your site will not be found in the search engines.

There are a number of handy tools available online to help you begin building your list of relevant keywords. Overture (formerly Goto.com) offers a Search Term Suggestion Tool on its web site that will not only tell you how many times a particular keyword phrase was queried in the past month, it’ll also present you with a list of alternative terms to consider for your search engine optimization campaign. http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

In addition to utilizing keyword suggestion tools to research your keywords, I highly recommend brainstorming keywords with your co-workers, employees, friends and family members. Better yet, ask your clients and customers what terms they would use to search for your web site. Brainstorming keywords will teach you a lot about how others think and use the Internet to find information.

Once you have identified your keywords, you will need to integrate them into the body of your web page. Your sentences need to be intelligible and grammatically correct. Don’t forget: Your web copy will be read by human beings, as well as the search engines. If your web copy doesn’t make sense, your visitors will hit their back button never to return again. Bad web copy will defeat the whole purpose of your search engine optimization campaign.

WRITING YOUR META TAGS

The most important tag in the header section of your web page is the title tag. The title tag is displayed in the bar at the top of your browser window–above the toolbar. Many webmasters do not use the title tag properly. For example, their page will be titled “Home” or “Welcome,” or worse yet “untitled,” because they don’t include a title at all. The search engines place a lot of relevance on the words contained within the title tag, so be sure to include your targeted keyword phrases when writing your title tag. This tag is generally limited to 60 characters, so choose your words with care.

The next important tag in the header section is the description meta tag. This tag is used to describe your web page. Like the title tag, many of the search engines will extrapolate this information to summarize your web site. Again, be sure to include your targeted keyword phrases.

The third and least important tag in the header section is the keywords meta tag. Because of abuse by unscrupulous webmasters, the keywords tag is ignored by many of the search engines. Even so, some do use it, so it doesn’t hurt to include it. Like your title and description tag, choose your keywords carefully. Do not include keywords that are not included in the body of your web copy or irrelevant to the theme of your site.

LINK POPULARITY

Much is said about link popularity, but what is it exactly?

A few years ago, people were joining “link farms” to increase their link popularity, but today that is frowned upon and can actually be detrimental to your quest for higher rankings in the search engines. Now the emphasis is more on the quality of the links pointing to your web site versus the quantity.

Many of the major search engines use link popularity to gauge the relevancy of your site in its search results. Plus, links are what makes the web go-round. Many webmasters have the notion that links are bad because they are sending visitors off of their web site. Although this is true, links to and from web sites that complement yours helps to build credibility and sets the stage for making your web site an authority in your field.

Much is written about the importance of getting links from directories like Yahoo!, Looksmart and the Open Directory Project, because they are reviewed by human beings. If you want a link in the first two, however, it will cost you money. A listing in Yahoo! and Looksmart is considered “paid inclusion.” Your marketing dollars will be well spent, though, because listings here will not only generate increased traffic, it will add greatly to your web site’s link popularity.

SUBMITTING TO THE SEARCH ENGINES

Once your web page is fully optimized, it is time to submit it to the search engines. Although there are hundreds of search engines on the Internet, only a handful are truly important. Recent statistics show the top three search engines as:

#1 MSN #2 Yahoo! #3 Google

Although there are automated services that promise to get you listed on thousands of search engines, it is recommended that you manually submit your site to the top search engines. Some of the search engines view automated submissions as spam and will not list your site. Others put a higher priority on manual submissions. And others–such as Inktomi–required an annual fee to list your site. It can take weeks (sometimes even months!) to get listed, so again, be patient. The search engines are important to the success of your web site, so treat them with the respect they deserve. Most of all, do not over-submit!

For more information about search engine submissions, request a copy of my article “Web Site Promotion 101″ at mailto:sitepromotion101@sendfree.com

TRAFFIC REPORTING AND ANALYSIS

Once you have allowed an appropriate amount of time to lapse (I usually wait six weeks), it is time to generate some reports to confirm the success of your search engine optimization campaign. Search engine positioning reports provide a wealth of information, such as your site’s position in the major search engines, how you rank on your targeted keyword terms and phrases, which sites rank above and below you, where you’ve declined in rankings, and so on.

To automate the process of generating your search engine positioning reports, download a free trial of 1stPlace Software’s highly-acclaimed WebPosition Gold at http://www.webposition.com/

In addition to your search engine positioning reports, be sure to regularly check your traffic logs. Is your traffic increasing? Are people finding your site with the search terms you targeted? Which of the search engines are referring visitors to your site?

There are many variables that affect rankings, including:

1. Keyword density 2. Link popularity 3. Click popularity 4. Keywords in the title 5. Keywords in the description tag 6. Keywords in the keywords tag 7. Keywords in the names of linked pages and in the linked words 8. Keywords in the alt tags 9. Keywords in names of images 10. Paying for ranks 11. Listing in online directories

CASE STUDY OF GRIEF LOSS & RECOVERY

In October 2001, my web site, Grief Loss & Recovery (http://www.grieflossrecovery.com), was averaging 98 visitors a day and 573 page views. Reviewing my traffic logs, I noted that the most popular search term for my site was “grief poems,” so I decided to optimize my site for that phrase.

Since October, my traffic has steadily climbed the charts.

In March 2002, my daily unique visitors averaged 325 and my page views 1962, an increase of 69 percent and 70 percent, respectively.

With regard to my rankings in the search engines, they have also improved considerably. For example, for the search phrase “grief poems” in Google, my site ranks number one out of 102,000 results; and for the search term “grief,” my site ranks 15 out of 1,690,000.

As for traffic referred by the search engines, Google far exceeds all other search engines in driving traffic to my site with 2,953 referrals in March, followed by Yahoo at 1,428. (In comparison, my October 2001 numbers showed Yahoo referring 535 visitors and Google 423.)

All-in-all, I am pleased with the results of my first attempt at optimizing Grief Loss & Recovery and am beginning to note similar results with some of the other web sites I have recently optimized.

When playing the search engine optimization game, patience is important, because results do not happen overnight.

CONCLUSION

To be competitive online, your web site needs to be search engine friendly. Search engine optimization is a function of Internet marketing and is the most cost-effective means of marketing to your target audience. With an estimated 84 percent of web users turning to the search engines to find information online, it is important that your site rank within the top 30 results if you want to be found. A successful search engine optimization campaign will not only boost your rankings in the search engines, it will bring qualified customers and prospects to your web site who are already on the web searching for your products and services.

Keyword Density – More Than Meets the Eye

One of the standard elements of web page optimization is Keyword Density: up until very recently the ratio of keywords to rest of body text was generally deemed to be one of the most important factors employed by search engines to determine a web site’s ranking.

However, this basically linear approach is gradually changing now: as mathematical linguistics and automatic content recognition technology progresses, the major search engines are shifting their focus towards “theme” biased algorithms that do not rely on analysis of individual web pages anymore but, rather, will evaluate whole web sites to determine their topical focus or “theme” and its relevance in relation to users’ search requests.

This is not to say that keyword density is losing in importance, quite the contrary. However, it is turning into a lot more complex technology than a simple computation of word frequency per web page can handle.

Context analysis is now being determined by a number of auxiliary linguistic disciplines and technology, for example: * semantic text analysis * textlexical database technology * distribution analysis of lexical components (such as nouns, adjectives, verbs) * evaluation of distance between semantic elements * AI and data mining technology based pattern recognition; * term vector database technology etc.

All these are now contributing to the increasing sophistication of the relevance determination process. If you feel this is beginning to sound too much like rocket science for comfort, you may not be very far from the truth: it seems that the future of search engine optimization will be determined by what the industry is fond to term the “word gurus”.

A sound knowledge of fundamental linguist methodology plus more than a mere smattering of statistical calculus will most probably be paramount to achieve successful search engine rankings in the foreseeable future. Merely repeating the well worn mantra “content is king!”, as some of the lesser qualified SEO professionals and very many amateurs are currently doing, may admittedly have a welcome sedative effect by creating a feeling of fuzzy warmth and comfort. But to all practical purposes it is tantamount to whistling in the dark and fails miserably in doing justice to the overall complexity of the process involved.

It should be noted that we are talking presence AND future here: many of the classical techniques of search engine optimization are still working more or less successfully, but there is little doubt that they are rapidly losing their cutting edge and will probably be as obsolete in a few months’ time as spamdexing or invisible text – both optimization techniques well worth their while throughout the 90s – have become today.

So where does keyword density come into this equation? And how is it determined anyway?

There’s the rub: the term “keyword density” is by no means as objective and clear-cut as many people (some SEO experts included) will have it! The reason for this is the inherent structure of hypertext markup language (HTM) code: as text content elements are embedded in clear text command tags governing display and layout, it is not easy to determine what should or should not be factored into any keyword density calculus.

The matter is complicated further by the fact that the meta tags inside a HTML page’s header may contain keywords and description content: should these be added to the total word count or not? Seeing that some search engines will ignore meta tags altogether (e.g. Lycos, Excite and Fast/Alltheweb), whereas others are still considering them (at least partially), it gets even more confusing. What may qualify for a keyword density of 2% under one frame of reference (e.g. including meta tags, graphics ALT tags, comment tags, etc.) may easily be reduced to 1% or less under another.

Further questions arise: will meta tags following the Dublin Convention (“D.C. tags”) be counted in or not? And what about HTTP-EQUIV tags? Would you really bet the ranch that TITLE tags in tables, forms or DIV elements will be ignored? Etc., etc.

Another fundamental factor generating massive fuzziness left, right and center, is the issue of semantic delimiters: what’s a “word” and what isn’t? Determing a lexical unity (aka a “word”) by punctuation is a common though pretty low tech method which may lead to some rather unexpected results.

Say you are featuring an article by an author named “John Doe” who happens to sport a master’s degree in arts, commonly abbreviated as “M.A.”. While most algorithms will correctly count “John” and “Doe” as separate words, the “M.A.” string is quite another story. Some algorithms will actually count this for two words (“M” and “A”) because of the period (dot) is considered a delimiter – whereas others (surprise!) will not. But how would you know which search engines are handling it in which way? Answer: you don’t, and that’s exactly where the problems start.

The only feasible approach to master this predicament is trial and error. The typical beginner’s inquiry “What’s the best keyword density for AltaVista?”, understandable and basically rational as it may be, is best answered with the fairly frustrating but ultimately precise: “It all depends – your mileage may vary.” It is only by experimenting with keyword densities under standardized, comparable conditions yourself that you will be able to come to significant and viable conclusions.

To get going, here are some links to pertinent programs that will help you determine (and, in one case, even generate) keyword densities.

Are you getting started in a network marketing program? One of the most frequently asked questions about affiliate marketing is what is an effective marketing link program. For an affiliate to ask this type of question it means that they have realized a particular key and very important requirement for the success of their affiliate program.

It does not matter what affiliate program you are talking about or thinking about, the same remains true. Without link generated traffic, your network marketing business will fail. One of the fastest and most efficient ways to gain traffic is to use links. This holds true for both short term, medium term, and long term businesses. There is no more effective traffic generation tool than good links. When you are talking about the short term, links will get you affiliate blog traffic as you climb in the search engine ranks. When you are talking about the medium term, you will get a lot of traffic coming your way from those search engines because the links will have put you up high in their ranks. In the long run, you will be getting a whole lot of traffic from your position in the search engine ranks.

You can find a lot of affiliate link programs on the internet. Some will cost you some money while others may be free. Either way, you will have to work at it. No matter how you look at it, the majority of all the successful, top high-earning affiliates are involved in some kind of affiliate link program.

You will most likely have to create at the very least 200 reciprocal links in order for your website to be considered important enough to appear in the top listings of the major search engines. However, it is not a very good idea to place all the reciprocal links on one page. One disadvantage to doing this is that if a webmaster sees a lot of links on a single page, they won’t accept reciprocal links requests from you. You will want to create a structure of pages where the links will be placed. You will need to make a new page for each theme, similar to the theme of your website.

You will also need to make one or more web pages for links to websites that contain different themes. Then you will need to create a web page that ill link to each of these pages known as a links index or directory page. Lastly, in your links index or directory page, you will want to place the title of your home page, the description of your home page, and your home page’s URL. A webmaster will use this information to place you in their links page.

What is Search engine Optimization or SEO Search engine Optimization (SEO) is a process to improve your site visibility in search engines like Google, yahoo, MSN, AltaVista etc….

Why to optimize for search engines.

Search engine Optimisation (seo) helps in getting targeted visitors to your site who can be potential buyers of your products or services. If you want to sell your products or services online search engines are one of the best ways to attract the targeted traffic. Most of the buyers use search engines to find what they are interested in and on an average they don’t go beyond 3 pages of search results so if your site is not showing within 3 pages of the SERPS (Search engine results pages) you might be loosing 95% of your targeted visitors.

Search engine Optimization process and Strategy

SEO process it starts form choosing your domain name a domain that represents the product or service you want to offer on your website. EG: if a firm called xyz is selling widgets in UK then a SEO friendly domain name can be something like xyzwidgets.co.uk or xyz-widgets.co.uk
Web design: Web design: After choosing a good domain name SEO friendly web design is an important part of the search engine optimisation (SEO) process. The SEO web design included the following elements.

1. Making it W3C compliant (HTML compliant, CSS compliant) 2. No use of frames within the website 3. Minimizing or no use of Flash content 4. Complying with web accessibility standards 5. Keyword rich filenames 6. Use of Anchor Text for hyperlinks and images 7. Use of hyphen (-) in the page name as compare to space or underscores(_). 8. HTML and XML sitemaps 9. User friendly site navigation

Content: Unique content is must to achieve good rankings in the top search engines it is the factor that drives your consumer to make that first important step in contacting you for your services. If you are using content from some articles or any other sites then it may not just land you in legal trouble if it is copyrighted and it will be counted as duplicate content by search engines. So always remember for good search engine rankings quality counts not the quantity. If you have unique and informative content then it can also help you in getting back links as well as driving targeted visitors to your site. And finally more traffic means more customers Link development: link building can be of three types reciprocal, one way and paid Reciprocal: find sites which are relevant to your website contact them and request for a link exchange between your website and his site. This is called reciprocal link exchange One way: you don’t need to add link to other site they will add link to your site it may be paid or free.

Using unique and relevant title to name each page Increasing the amount of unique content on the site. Using a reasonably-sized, accurate description meta tag without excessive use of keywords, exclamation marks or off topic terms

    * Ensuring that all pages are accessible via anchor tag hyperlinks.
    * Allowing search engine spiders to crawl pages without having to accept session IDs or cookies.
    * Writing useful, informational articles under a Creative Commons or other open source license, in exchange for attribution to the author by hyperlink.

Back Links Strategies

Off-Site optimization playing a major role in any web-site ranking. Off-Site optimization refers to the factors that you can’t control it in your site. One of the most critical parts in Off-Site optimization is back-links. The search engines sees the back-links as it’s voting for your site, and as this voting increases your ranking increases also. There are many ways that enables you to get back-links to your site in order to get high ranking position for your site, however we will mention the most two important ways.

First way to get back-links is article submission. There are many sites in the Internet allowing you to submit your articles for free, and it also allows you to put up to three links by the end of your articles. By this way you will get free one way back-link to your site without the need to put a link back to the article site. This way not only gives you one way back-link, but it also gives you massive laser target traffic to your site. Simply there are a lot of members in article sites that seeks the latest information technology and the latest news by reading articles. So the members will visit the the article site, read your article, visiting your site, and that’s it. You have just got a new visitor to your site.

Second method of getting back-links is directory submission. Today directories became a very important part of the Internet, and there are a lot of people that searching for a specific web-site service using the directories. However this method is not always free, because of the massive submission reports that the directories admins receive they start to take some fees to accept new sites. Some directories still provide this service for free, others ask for linking back in order to accept your site, and the last method is by paying money.

In conclusion, web-site ranking can be heavily effect by using Off-Site optimization. Off-site optimization can rank your site in the top ten, and also can drop your site to a lower position. In order to get a high ranking you should master Off-Site optimization, and especially the ways that gives you back-links.

The Secret To Getting Indexed In Hours By All The Major Search Engines

For all of us who make a living from internet marketing, driving traffic to our sites is one of the most important activities we do on a daily basis.

There are some definite steps that can be taken to speed up the process of getting indexed as well as proper domain name registration. I am going to give a quick outline here on how to go about this step by step using the latest tactics to your site indexed in hours instead of weeks. The first thing that you have to do is be sure that you have a viable domain name; by viable I mean one that will make you money. It’s cool to have your own name as a domain and I recommend that everyone do it, but that isn’t generally going to make you money unless your name happens to be Bill Gates or Warren Buffet.

It is absolutely crucial to choose domain names that contain the keywords you want to rank well for. It blows by mind how people will use abbreviations and such and expect to get good rankings easily. If you are doing a site on articles, the keyword articles should be in it like 500articles.com. This research is crucial, to see the tools I recommend seeing my resource box at the bottom of the article. Secondly, when you build your site regardless of whether it is a static site or a blog your title needs to have your main key words in it. So be sure that your site does not say, “Welcome to Homer’s website” or whatever, get my drift?

If you are doing a website on karaoke for example, your title should have words like karaoke, karaoke music, karaoke songs, etc. Only put in the top four words that you want to rank for. This is a mistake I see made daily. Either there is no relevant title at all or the title is stuffed with so many keywords that it is watered down and will never rank well. For the exact way that your title should read, contact me or see more at the link below. In order to be indexed quickly you have to let the internet world know that your site exists and you need to do it in a rapid fashion. Once you have your site or blog up and have content of some kind on it you need to be getting attention to it.

I am going to let you in on a secret here that many people are not taking advantage of and I have tested it with no other method of promoting so I know it works. If you haven’t heard of tag and ping then you need to listen up. Tagging certain keywords is one of the fastest ways that you can get your site listed. If you aren’t doing this you are wasting precious time. I will give you an example without giving away the name of my site. I just put up a WordPress blog on July 7th in a fairly high traffic niche. I wanted to test the method I am speaking of so I did no article marketing like I normally do, and didn’t even put any regular content on it. I used an automated blog posting tool and set it up to post “quality” RSS feeds on my topic.

Now, pay attention because it is what I did next that is crucial. I put technorati tags in the tool for keywords I wanted linking to my site. I set for the initial posting of four times a day, it was indexed by Yahoo and the Google blog search engine within two hours and in Google’s main index the next day! Now that I know for a fact that this works I will begin my normal method for driving traffic which is writing articles and submitting them to all the major article directories. I highly recommend Article Marketer for this. It is not expensive and it makes it simple for you to submit your articles to thousands of ezine and article directory owners. This is not a difficult thing to accomplish and if you are serious about your internet marketing business there are certain tools that I think you cannot be without. Some of them are brand new and have just come out that have made my life a lot easier and have saved me a ton of time allowing me to build more sites and write more articles. I am willing to share the names of those resources with you, so take advantage of it.

The Holy Grail of Any SEO Campaign

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of the best and reliable Internet marketing tactics to drive loads of traffic to your website. However, this technique is much more complex than other traffic generating methods out there in the market. If you are a newbie to SEO, then your learning curve will be a very steep one.

To cut a long story short, every SEO campaign depends on one very important process: selecting the right keyword or phrase. Hit on the right keyword, and you will laugh all the way to the bank. Make a mistake with your keywords, and your Internet home business will fail miserably.

So how do you select the best keywords or phrases for your SEO tactics? Below are the 5 holy grails of SEO which you must implant into your head.

1. Your keyword MUST have a high demand.

If there is no demand for the keyword that you are focusing on, then there is only one outcome: zero sales. And zero sales usually mean that you can close down your online business. So how do you find a keyword in high demand?

The answer is simple: find out how many times that particular keyword has been searched for by Internet users all over the world. You can achieve this by using a free tool such as nichebot. This tool allows you to enter the keywords you desire, and then it will display the number of times they have been searched for within a certain period.

A count of more than 50,000 is a good start. Also, you can use a software called Good Keywords to help give you more ideas on selecting your ideal keywords or phrases.

2. The lower the competition, the better.

You wouldn’t want your website to disappear into a maze of millions of other websites in the same niche as yours, do you? So go for keywords with a high count, but low competition.

If you don’t have a lot of competition, you will find it a lot easier to corner the market that is associated with your keyword. Although Internet marketing is very different from traditional marketing, the basic business concept is still the same: low supply plus high demand equals to a highly profitable business. If your website is among only a handful of other sites in the same niche related to a particular keyword, then you stand good chance of being very successful in your Internet home business.

3. Use 3 or 4 keyword phrases

This is one search engine optimization tactic that can potentially boost your sales to a new level. Why is this so? A prospect that is ready to buy something usually types in 3 or 4 words as their search term so that his search is more specific, and there is a much higher chance of getting what he is looking for.

On the other hand, the casual Internet surfer who is logging onto the net just to past time will normally key in only one or two words as their search terms. They have absolutely no intention to buy, because they are only looking for certain bits of information to feed their curiosity.

Therefore, if you want to build a more profitable Internet home business, focus more on 3 or 4 keyword phrases.

4. Your keyword should have a high Cost Per Click (CPC).

A keyword which has a high CPC rate will ensure bigger profits for you, especially if you are playing the Google Adsense or Yahoo Advertising games. Just in case if you are wondering what is Adsense, this is a Pay-Per-Click (PPC) program that pays you every time a visitor to your site clicks on a particular ad that is displayed in your web pages. So the higher the CPC, the more you will earn.

You would need to do some research on the going rate for your keywords by doing a search at adsense arena, and the corresponding CPC for a number of keywords will appear. Want to determine the bidding price of your keywords? You can try the free bidding tool found in Overture.

5. Choose a keyword that fetches a number of relevant ads.

This is very important for Adsense. You can try to run a search of your keyword at Google. On the results page, notice the row of links on the right side. These are PPC ads, and they are, more or less, the same ads that will appear on your own web pages if you decide to use the same keyword.

As a rule of thumb, choose the keyword that fetches at least 5 relevant ads. This is to ensure a higher Click Through Rate (CTR) for your PPC campaigns. You certainly would not want any non-relevant ads to populate your web page, otherwise your CTR will suffer miserably.

The Holy Grail of Any SEO Campaign / Wyatt Lee

Wyatt Lee is a successful full-time Internet marketer. Do NOT Click Here, unless you want to get FREE inside secrets of a homeless chap who made more than $3 million in just 27 months online.

What Should You Pay For Web Design?

The whole web design industry has undergone major changes over the past 5 years and there is now a variety of options and ideas available to you. You can pay anything from £100 to over £10,000 but what is the difference and what do you need?

Firstly, the differences are the programming languages and the popular choices are usually HTML, PHP, ASP,.NET,C++, C# and Coldfusion. There are others but these are the most popular ones.

With each of these there can be advantages and disadvantages and there is not a right or wrong solution, unless you require specific functionality that can be handled better by a particular programming language. The simplest language is HTML and this is for basic websites that do not require dynamic functionality or do not require the use of a database to collect user or customer data for sales and marketing purposes.

In terms of what you need, this will greatly depend on your target market, your product or service and what you want to achieve from your site. With so many web designers and design companies about, it can be a daunting task for any company to choose their preferred developer. It will not matter if you pay ten times more to one company as this will not guarantee your desired results better than the cheapest quote you receive.
What is greatly important is that you think hard about what you want to achieve and then ask each company if they can a) produce these results b) tell you how they intend to achieve these results.
Without this, you do not stand much chance of beating your competitors.

With so many websites on the internet it is no longer good enough to just have a great-looking site. Having an attractive, user-friendly and accessible website will give your customers confidence but it will ultimately not bring you any new business if your website is poorly coded and not designed for Search Engine Optimisation and does not take into account the importance of Internet Marketing.

Likewise, you could have a well-optimised website for Search Engines but your poor design and accessibility could affect your sales. What you need to do is to get the right balance of design, functionality and search engine optimisation in order to have a successful website. Only then can you start marketing your website effectively for the top 3 search engines Google, Yahoo and MSN as these search engines constantly change their algorithms

You have to ensure your choice of web designer or company is the right one as you will only end up wasting time and money in the long term.

Ethical Search Engine Optimisation Services: Are You Selecting the Right Keywords?

Selecting keywords to drive website traffic to your site is a very crucial point in search engine optimisation. Many people believe selecting keywords with the most searches will get them the desired ranks and traffic they wish to have. Unless you already have a well established website within the search engine ranks, selecting keywords with a high number of searches should be avoided. These sorts of keywords will usually mean that there is a large number of competing pages, which in turn means it will be extremely difficult to achieve high ranks.

Due to a large number of competing pages for generic terms, optimisers should focus on selecting keywords that have a reasonable amount of searches and a minimal amount of competing pages. The key is to focus on a small list of keywords, say 20 to 30, and then once a strong presence has been made for those keywords the list can be expanded to include slightly more generic terms.

Having said that, selecting keywords with less search numbers doesn’t necessarily result in less visitors to your website. Search engine users these days tend to refine their searches to more specific keywords since they are given a broad range of websites when they use the generic terms. For example, if you have people wanting to buy a car, most search engine users will enter the phrase “buy car”. Once they are given a wide range of websites to choose from, they will in most cases change their search to include a car model type. For those who have optimised for the more refined phrases, the more likely they are going to get an interested buyer.

For those of you who are looking for a good keyword tool, Wordtracker and Overture is a good place to start. To determine the number of competing pages for a keyword phrase, enter that phrase into a search engine and look at the number of pages indexed. As a rule of thumb, I always tend to select keyword phrases that have less than a million pages indexed in Google or Yahoo.

With all that in mind, provided you target selected keywords that have a reasonable amount of search numbers and a minimal amount of competing pages along with proper optimisation practices, you should be able to achieve a strong presences in search engines over a period of time.

Search Engine Optimisation: How Accurate are Keyword Tools?

In search engine optimisation, it is a crucial element to select the right keywords when optimising a website. The obvious reason being, if you have keywords with no search volume, you will not receive any traffic. Secondly, if you have keywords that are too competitive, you will find it very difficult (almost impossible) to win high ranks. So how do we find the in between balance for both obstacles? This is where keyword tools would come into place, but how accurate are they?

To start, the main keyword research tools that are found on the market today are Wordtracker, Overture Keyword Tool and Trellian Keyword Discovery. Now I bet many of you are pulling your hair out over which keywords are going to be suitable for optimisation. What makes it probably even more stressful is the varying results between the three different keyword tools i.e. one keyword tool may show a particular keyword to be very good, while another tool may suggest a whole different result for the same keyword. Well stop stressing right now! The truth is that we don’t really know how accurate these keyword tools are and we should only use their search volume figures as an indication as to whether a keyword is popular amongst search engine users.

Let’s say a keyword phrase, “dog products”, has a search volume of 5,000 searches per month on the Overture Keyword Tool. To make an assumption that “dog products” is a good keyword for optimisation, based ONLY on the Overture figure, would be a very bad assumption. However, it gives us a rough idea of the search volume for that particular keyword. The next step would be to use Wordtracker or Keyword Discovery to see if a similar amount of search volume is present for “dog products” (remember to convert searches for each tool to a common time frame i.e. monthly or daily). If we have a very low search volume in BOTH Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery, then I would be very skeptical about using “dog products” for optimisation. The whole idea is to get at least two of the three keyword tools to reflect reasonable / high search volumes before considering that keyword to be suitable for optimisation. If you have all three keyword tools returning reasonable / high search volumes for “dog products”, then the chances are that this keyword is reasonable / high in search volume and definitely worth considering for optimisation.

Once a good set of keywords have been agreed upon through the use of the keyword tools, you should then focus on the keywords that have a low / reasonable amount of competing web pages. There is no point trying to compete for a keyword that has 1,000,000 web pages in competition for it. If you are good at SEO then you could achieve high ranks for that keyword, but it would require a lot of time and investment which could be spent on better things. The lower the competition is, then the more chance of achieving higher ranks.

To recap, there is no indication to say that keyword tools are 100% accurate. Whilst the reseller of the tool may suggest otherwise, I highly doubt it. The results should be taken like a “grain of salt” as they are only useful to give you an idea as to what the search volume might be like for a particular keyword (high, moderate or low). With each tool obtaining its results using different algorithms, in some cases their results will not support each other. Provided you use two of the keyword tools to investigate the search volume for keywords, you should be able to make a good decision as to whether a keyword might be worth optimising for. With that in mind, it would also be wise to use your common sense to determine if a keyword is one that YOU would actually use in a search. Otherwise, what would be the point of optimisation in the first place?

Search Engine Optimization Myths

There is nothing fancy or magical about optimizing your website for the search engines. The myths about it are greater than the facts. For as long as SEO has been in existence, there have been all sorts of myths about it.

The situation isn’t helped by the number of so-called “SEO Experts” spreading them.

Here’s a list of the biggest SEO myths you need to be aware of so you can avoid being drawn into buying useless services that tout help with them:

-You can’t optimize perfectly for every site With the right keywords, title, description and tags that accurately reflect your content, you can optimize every site of your for the search engines.

-There are 10,000 search engines out there The onlye search engine you need to target to get listed in is Google. Once Google picks you up all the others will, too. Google leads the pack and what Google does the other major search engines will follow: MSN, Yahoo and Ask Jeeves. Forget the other ones, the traffic is small and inconsequential.

-PageRank is dead Today Pagerank is as importatn as ever with Google.

-You should repeat your keywords 100 times on each page. A keyword density of optimum around 5-8% on each page. The keywords should also be wound into good copy and make sense where they are placed. Stuffing pages with keywords is a good way to get you ignored or even banned by the search engines.

-Search engines don’t have time to ban you for bad SEO. One of the biggest ways to get banned from the major search engines is bad SEO. -You should submit your site to every search engine going Again, submit to just Google and you’ll be picked up by all the other search engines eventually.

-You don’t need content to get ranked high Content, fresh and relevant, will always be king for good SEO. The web was founded on information and content is information.

-Meta tags are very important Most search engines ignore meta tags today however, you can still place them.

-All you need is more links Links into your site need to be related to your content. So called “link farms” which are lists of hundreds of unrelated sites will lower your pagerank.

-SEO doesn’t require patience Good SEo requires, not only patience but research, thought and time invested into it.

-New sites can’t get listed in search engines. Good, well SEO optimized websites can get indexed in a s little as 48 hours.

-You should have multiple domain names One well chosen domain names for your sites theme is all you need.

-It’s good to resubmit every week or every month Once a month is the rule for submission but only if you update your site monthly. If you do not then submit every 2 or 3 months.

Avoid companies that advertise any of these items. The only techniques you should be using are ones that are proven to increase your website’s ranking.

There are a lot of unethical, unprofessional business practices in the optimization industry. Get the facts on your side and compare the services you’re being offered. Use your money wisely and invest it properly in good marketing, advertising, and content.

When inexperienced and unprofessional optimizers scam uneducated SEO customers, it gives everyone who works in the field a bad name. If anyone tells you that it’s OK to keyword stuff, or that you don’t need PageRank – well, they’re just completely wrong.

If you’re trying to make money with your website, you need visitors, and that’s where SEO is iimportant. SEO is important to get on top of your competition and the search engines. Good SEO means sales.

Benefits Of Using Private Label Rights Content

One of the most popular questions circulating the internet industry today is how private label rights content can help build traffic. And if you know the answer to this question as well as the benefits, you may find out that your site is more successful than you ever thought possible.

Private label rights content can be legally edited after you purchase the rights. This means that you can do whatever you want with the articles; it is up to you to make the work.

Listed below are a few reasons on why you should use private label rights content, as well as how it can benefit your site.

1. By using private label rights content you will save yourself a lot of time over the course of a month. Think about, how long would it take you to write a high quality article? An hour, maybe longer? Instead of tying up all of your time writing new content, you can simply use private label rights content. This way you can post new content to your site on a monthly basis in no time at all.

2. When you use private label rights content you can avoid outbound links that are included with other articles. This way you can make your content look much cleaner, while also having the ability to add links that you are interested in.

3. You can edit private label rights articles in whichever way you would like. This means that you can complete edits, or add and subtract as much information as you would like. Remember, you own the articles so you can do whatever you want to them.

4. You can take credit as the writer of the article. By doing this you will be able to establish yourself as an expert in your industry. This alone will go a long way in garnering new clients, which will in turn increase your profits.

5. When you buy private label rights content, you are buying articles that you written by professionals. This means that you never have to worry about the content being inaccurate, or poorly written. If you are not a great writer yourself, this is reason enough to use private label rights content.

6. Buying private label rights content means that you are going to get several articles related to the same subject. This makes things much easier because you will be able to build your site with your interest in mind, and then find private label rights content that adheres to those guidelines.

These are just some of the benefits that go along with using private label rights content. If you are not sure if private label rights content are right for you, why not give it a shot? It will only cost you a few dollars, and it may end up making you much more than that. Consider it an investment in your company. You may be surprised at how well private label rights content will work for your website.

Difference Between Private Label Rights, Master Resell Rights And Resell Rights

In today’s day and age of internet technology, content is king. Everybody that owns a website knows just how important it is to have content that will increase traffic. The reason for this is quite simple. Increased traffic leads to increased sales which lead to increased profits. But the bottom line is that everything about a website starts with the words on the screen.

Even though it may sound easy enough to get content onto your site, it can actually be quite difficult and time consuming. If you are running a business, you probably have enough stuff to keep you occupied outside of having to worry about writing articles. But luckily, there is something that you can do about this. You can take advantage of private label articles and have new content for your site every month. This means that you will never have to write content again; all you have to do is wait for the new articles to show up in your inbox!

The first thing that you need to get started is the correct definition of private label articles. Simply put, these are articles that you can modify any way that you see fit; or better yet, you can keep them the way they are and simply post them to your site. Unfortunately, it is not this easy. There are three different areas that you will have to deal with. They are: master resells rights, resell rights, and private label rights. By knowing the difference between these three, you will be able to take your site to a new level in a variety of different ways.

Having master resell rights means that you are licensed to resell a product as many times as you would like. For example, if you have master resell rights of an article you can sell the same piece over and over again to different clients. At the same time, if you have master resell rights you also have the ability to resell the resell rights. This means that not only can you sell the article, but you can also sell the right to sell the article to the buyer.

When you are dealing with resell rights, you have the ability to resell the product as many times as you would like without having to pay any royalties to the original owner. In other words, you can sell an article an endless amount of times without ever having to pay the owner a royalty on those sales, but you cannot grant the same resell rights to your customers.

Private label rights allow you to take a product and modify it in any way that you please. If you are dealing with a written article, this means that you can add words, change words, and modify it however you see fit. When you are done you can even claim the article as your own.

Even though it may seem difficult to decipher the difference between master resell rights, resell rights, and private label rights, it is actually quite simple. The main thing to remember is to make sure that you know which rights you have before moving forward with any action. This will keep you safe at all times.

Search Engine Marketing – What It Is and How Your Business Can Benefit From It

Simply put, Search Engine Marketing or SEM is the fastest, most powerful, highly-targeted, most dynamic, highly-measurable and most cost-effective marketing strategy that can give your business the power to reach potential customers anywhere in the world anytime for a little as USD $0.05 cost per customer acquisition or even for free!

Search Engine Marketing or SEM is about making sure that your Web site appears on the top 20 of search results every time potential customers search for whatever products and/or services that you offer on any of the major Search Engines including Google, Yahoo and MSN which collectively accounts for over 90% of all Search Engine originating traffic.

There are of course other smaller Search Engines that focus on niche industries such as Kayak (www.kayak.com Travel Search Engine) and country-specific Search Engines like Baidu (www.baidu.com) which is very popular in China.

How Popular Are Search Engines?

A study last November 2005 finds that the number of people who use Internet Search Engines to find information has jumped over the last year, claiming a solid No. 2 spot behind e-mail as the most popular activity online. In the year 2003, 250 million searches were made daily on Google alone!

How Does It Work?

On the Internet, whenever somebody wants to find something, they use Search Engines. As spam continues to lessen the effectiveness of email as a marketing tool, Search Engine Marketing is fast becoming the marketing strategy of choice for companies who want to reach a global audience 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, either for free or for as little as USD $0.05 per visitor. As the Internet becomes more and more a part of our everyday lives, the greater their role becomes in helping businesses connect with their customers at that crucial point in their buying decision process (when they are searching for it).

Right now, there are probably people… potential customers who are looking for whatever products or services you are offering on any or all of the major Search Engines. When potential customers type in the keywords that they are searching for and press that “Search” button, do they find you or your competitors instead?

How can you get your business to appear on Search Engines?

Of course, you first must have a Web site. If you don’t have one, get one designed by someone who has a decent understanding of Search Engine Optimization. I’ve come across business Web sites that are so badly designed from an SEM perspective that you can’t even find it even if you search for the company name or business name itself! Even worse, their sites are designed in a way that prevents instead of facilitates their visitors to transact with them.

There are basically 2 ways for you to get your Web site to appear on Search Engines. You either get it listed on the “organic” or natural search results by doing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or you launch a Pay Per Click Campaign (PPC) for the keywords you want your Web site to appear for. Ideally, you should be doing both because a PPC campaign can start driving highly-qualified traffic to your Web site almost instantly while you wait for your SEO campaign to gain momentum and get your Web site within the top 20 of the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page), otherwise known as “organic” or “natural” search results, which can take months to happen.

What Is Search Engine Optimization?

To get your Web site to appear on the SERPs you need to launch an SEO campaign. The main problem with SEO is that it can be very difficult and take anywhere from several months to over 1 year before you can achieve good rankings and appear within the top 20 rankings or top 2 pages of the organic search results which is all the results that most people are willing to see before they make a decision and choose what Web site to ultimately visit and do business with. Getting your Web site listed in the top 20 results is going to be a constant battle, especially if you are in a highly competitive industry and your competitors are also actively doing the same thing.

How your Web site is designed determines in great part how well its Search Engine rankings will be. Do you adore that lovely Flash animation on your home page? Loose it! Search Engines can’t see that Flash animation and they rely almost exclusively on text to determine the relevance and consequently, the ranking of every Web page.

What Is A Pay Per Click Campaign?

Pay Per Click or PPC campaigns are basically ads (Sponsored Links) that appear alongside the organic search results whenever someone uses a Search Engine to search for anything that he’s interested in. The reason why it’s called Pay Per Click is because you spend only when somebody actually “clicks” on your PPC ad and not every time somebody sees it. These ads are controlled and are made to appear only every time specific “keywords” are searched for. The level of control an advertiser has over his PPC campaign is so high that he can control exactly how and who gets to see his PPC ads and most importantly, how much he spends for it. For as little as USD $0.05 per click on Google and USD $0.10 on Yahoo and MSN, you can start driving highly-qualified visitors to your Web site.

What Are Its Advantages Over Traditional Marketing Mediums?

While you may get an increase in sales when you put out an ad on TV, radio or print, it is almost impossible to track how well your sales were influenced “directly” by your ads. With Search Engine Marketing, you would know exactly how much you are spending and how much actual revenue you are getting for each cent that you spend for it. You can even know where your customers are coming from using Web Analytics such as the popular and free Google Analytics.

The ability to control your marketing expenditure, track your campaign’s performance, identify and target your market, a truly global reach, measurable results and being able to make changes to your campaign on the fly makes Search Engine Marketing far superior to traditional marketing medium.

How Effective Is Search Engine Marketing?

It is not impossible to convert 50% of your Search Engine originating traffic. The real beauty of Search Engine Marketing is that it allows your customers to find you instead of you trying to find them.

How much does it cost?

The cost of any Search Engine Marketing campaign depends greatly on the scope and extent of it. The more keywords and the broader the audience you want to target, the more it’s going to cost but the greater the benefit would be. Maybe the more important question is… “How much is it costing your business by not doing Search Engine Marketing?”

SEO works if you make love to the Search Engines!

The search engines are getting very smart these days. With the surge of free article sites that are appearing all over the net, they are paying more and more attention to the content of your articles. A free article could possibly turn up on thousands of sites so how on earth can the search engine index your free article and not the others. Ok, back links are great but I want more than that, I want to be seen on Google’s directory as well.

Ok, writing your article. Think about your site topic. Basically I use a rule of thumb, I will exclude all the major search terms for the content of my site. No point in competing with literally millions of others. There are many programs that allow you to collect the search words for your subject. Ok this is where I start doing things a little different..

Try not thinking search word and start thinking search phrase. It absolutely amazing how many search phrases are used by people. Forget words like ‘television’ and start thinking in terms of ’32 inch flatscreen tv’. Forget ‘free music’ and think in terms of ‘free music to download now’. Visitors will use the most obscure terms. Try to use the search box the way you would speak. Think of the age group that you are attracting and if it’s teenagers for instance, you need to tone down the etiquette as the youth speak their own language! Mis-spelt words are also good, words such as ‘z’ ‘s’ as in teens or teenz.

Ok we now have a set of search phrases so how do we use them? There is a specific way which will give you an advantage. Remember the search engines don’t always index you whole article. They tend to make a decision based on the first few words that make sense. It’s no use saturating your article with keywords. Far better to be sparing and sensible.

1.Make sure that your main search phrase is inserted within the first sentence making sure that this sentence make sense.
   2. Insert the same key phrase once more in the first paragraph.
   3. Insert the same key phrase in the rest of article. A 3% density is just about right, that is 3 keywords or key phrases to every 100 words.

If you do the basics correctly you will enhance your chances of recognition. Don’t be fooled into thinking that the engines need to see lot’s of keywords. Be subtle, be clever and you will get your rewards. It also is worth considering hiring professional ArticleandContent writers to author your articles.

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the act of altering or optimizing your website and it’s content in order that search engines deem it to be relevant and useful to certain topics. You are able to select the most appropriate topics through the use of certain keywords in your website.

When surfers conduct searches on search engines they are presented with a list of results for that search term. These results are called Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) and generally speaking, the websites that appear at the top of the SERPs will receive plenty of traffic to their websites from searchers.

In order to determine your position on the SERPs, search engines use their own algorithms. While nobody knows for absolute certain what these algorithms are it is widely accepted that your website needs to be easy to navigate, popular and relevant.

Easy navigation means that your site should have text links to each of its pages. If you use a flash menu system then you should include a sitemap in order that search engines and visitors can quickly and easily find their way around the whole of your website.

In order to make your website appear popular you need to get links to your site. While search engines would rather these links were generated because visitors to your site genuinely found your content useful, it is commonplace to undertake a reciprocal link campaign or generate inbound links. Reciprocal links mean a website links to you in exchange for a link to their own site.

Relevance is judged by your content. By including the keywords you place in the metatags of your site throughout the body of your content and in certain places within your site you are indicating to the search engines that your website contains relevant information.

By combining these factors you can effectively convince search engines that you deserve to be near the top of their SERPs. However, this can take time and a lot of effort if you don’t fully understand what you are doing.

Your Search Engine Rankings Take a Tumble – What Do You Do?

As the search engines continue to improve, your SEO needs to as well. A ranking tumble for your website can be devastating. You need to recover as soon as possible – it’s not the easiest task in the world, but it’s not as hard as you’d think. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you cannot panic. You have to keep working on your SEO projects and you need to remember that listings and rankings come and go rapidly at times but that search engines won’t let you down if your site is useful.

The experts’ advice to websites that have lost their ranking is usually to start over, following current and good SEO information. Look over your entire site and insure that you haven’t done something that would have caused this sudden change in listings and rankings. Normally if you haven’t done anything wrong, your links will slowly begin to reappear again especially if you have a nice sized linking network that is listed well.

One step that you can take is to narrow your site’s focus and work hard on one or two keywords. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but it’s sufficient. Make sure each page of your site includes good enough navigation that someone can get anywhere from anywhere else, and make sure you do this with plain links, not fancy JavaScript.

If you are using frames, now is a good time to dump them. You can replace them with scrollable tags and have similar looking pages that search engines can index more easily. The most important concept in recovering from a ranking tumble is to perform damage control. Any SEO operation that you have performed that could be deemed as controversial you should immediately disband. If you are lucky, your web site hasn’t been permanently deleted from any important search engines.

Once you have performed all of the local damage control that you can it is a good idea to insure that your file sizes are relatively small. Make sure that you don’t have any excessive images or large external files that will cause a search engine to give up on its attempt to index you. Make sure that you haven’t created a linking loop that Google’s bots can’t find a way out of.

Links are very important to your website’s rankings, and you need to consider finding good link partners to improve your targeted traffic and keyword relevancy. If you have a decent core of link partners already you can request that they move their links to your site to a higher traffic page for a short period of time so that you can get re-indexed. They may be willing to do this if you remind them that the links from your site to theirs are more valuable once you’ve been indexed than they are when you are de-indexed.

If you submit to the search engines properly the first time and you have a good SEO maintenance plan, you’ll only need to submit your site once. You might consider hiring someone to keep your site regularly updated, as regularly-updated sites rank higher. If you have recently suffered a ranking tumble, use Google Sitemaps to get your page back into Google. This is the fastest method available and is the strongest damage control that you will be able to perform.

Build great content around your keywords or phrases. Remember that content is King for both visitors and search engines. Your content must be extremely relevant to your key words at this point. You don’t want to try to pull a fast one because this was probably the reason that your ranking tumbled in the first place. Remember: When you are recovering from a rank tumble, you are at the search engines’ mercy. You cannot possibly recover if you try to do anything that doesn’t seem right to the search engines.

Submit your website properly to each search engine and directory by hand, making sure you understand each site’s rules. Using automatic submissions is just not a good idea. There are so many things that can go wrong and you just don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. Work by hand and if possible, contact the search engine or directory and ask them if there is a specific reason that your site was suddenly removed. Ask them if there is any action that you can take to make up for any mistakes that you may have made.

Get as many one-way links as you can from directories or pay to have good websites link to yours. One-way links are better than two-way ones.

Monitor your results regularly to find out what’s working and what’s not. Don’t be afraid to make changes.

Keep all these things in mind and you can recover from a rankings tumble easily.

Top Website Marketing Tips
You may follow these below given ideas to get your web site known to your existing clients and for spreading the word around the actual world. Some of these methods might work better than the other; some are very cost efficient whilst where some may have real world costs involved. It’s actually very hard to say which method would serve you the best. Try as many various ways as possible by you, experiment with different headlines and copy to see which methods gives the best of best result.

Advertising

Certainly the most important, the most efficient and the most affordable technique are promotion and marketing for any business. When you talk to existing customer, friends, relatives and related people, take every chance to mention about your new web site. Give then you business card or your web address card and ask them to have a look and let you know what they think about it, insist on them being honest and give you unbiased feed back.

Introduction

Another moderately reasonably priced way of letting people know about your created web site is to produce a domestic flier and pamphlet. It does not need to be the bee’s lap of fliers. Essentially, your flier wants to have huge bold, inspired headings to create, which direct desire for a person to lift up the flier. Include your new web site address in large text; comprise a couple of short paragraphs stating out the main features of your new web site and how it would help the customer.

Business Cards

Although this might seem like an apparent way of promoting your web site, many businesses still fail to notice including their web site address and e-mail address as part of their big business contact information. Other businesses might have just had new business cards and business stationery printed, even as others might have still a lot of stock of old business stationery.

Newspaper / Display Advertising

Classified advertising in your home group of people papers and state papers is another cost efficient way of advertising your new web site. Most, if not all papers, have a computer and/or Internet services directory classification over and above a classification relative to main business. If you use newspaper or telephone book show advertising, have your web site address and e-mail address as soon as possible.

Bad SEOs? What about Bad SEO Clients?

You hear all the time about bad SEOs. Bad SEOs are offering worthless services, failing to deliver on their internet marketing promises, polluting the search engine results—well, a lot of bad things. But how much ever gets said about bad SEOs’ spiritual counterparts: bad SEO clients?

As an SEO, I can see things from the other side of the table. You see, despite trying hard to make it clear I’m a good, ethical, results-oriented, smarter marketing, white-hat SEO, I have gotten no end of inquiries from bad prospective SEO clients. Sure, no one who gets cheated is ever entirely to blame, and some cheated businesses are entirely blameless. But the bad SEOs would have too small a market to stay in business if it weren’t for almost-as-bad clients.

Shades of Bad SEO Clients

First, let me make clear what I mean by “bad” SEOs. Bad SEOs are bad because they either do unethical things to get e-marketing results, or because they consistently fail to deliver results. A good SEO delivers results and does it without trampling over other people’s rights (like submitting automated comments to their websites or trying to get good sites de-indexed).

A bad SEO client, in turn, is someone who will only be satisfied (albeit temporarily) with a bad SEO. Because they refuse to consider ethical web consultants or smarter marketing strategies, they are creating markets for the e-marketing charlatans and black-hats. There are two basic types of bad SEO clients: crooks and fool–oops, I mean, ethically challenged and judgmentally-challenged.

Ethically-Challenged SEO Clients

I haven’t gotten so many inquiries asking for out-and-out unethical services. Still, I’ve been asked about blog-sp@mming software and other shady internet marketing tactics a couple times. A colleague shared this gem with me: “Have you thought about just scanning a book from the library and using it for web content? Or is that too high-risk?” (Seriously, someone asked him this.)

Of course, judging from the amount of comment sp@m and SEO-motivated hacking on the web, there is plenty of demand for this stuff.

Judgmentally-Challenged SEO Clients

A much larger group of bad SEO clients are simply those who insist on putting themselves in the way of fraud. Yes, that’s right: I’m blaming the victim. Someone who goes looking for a $5 gold watch can’t cry too long if the watch turns out to be fake or hot. With SEO, there are a few more nuances, but it’s the same essential idea.

The overwhelming majority of these judgmentally challenged souls are private individuals whose only business is the business-in-a-kit variety. Yet they are also sometimes representatives of actual successful companies. The real businesspeople tend to be quicker to let their misconceptions go (after all, they can afford the real SEO alternatives), but not always. Let’s look at some representative types of this group, straight out of my own inbox (note: these are inquiries from prospects, not actual clients).

1. Something-for-(Little More than)-Nothing Clients

Really, I tend to think these people should be in the ethically challenged group, but maybe that’s just the remnant of my work ethic making me be mean There are actually two kinds of these clients:

* The ambitious but cheap client: “I’d like to get to the top of Google for the keyword, ‘mortgage’ so I can turn over $100,000/month in revenue. I can spend up to $1,000.” * The Adsense-is-my-business-plan client: you wouldn’t believe the numbers of inquiries I get from people who only plan to make money off Adsense or other on-site advertising—they don’t even have a plan for getting repeat traffic, nor do they have content to synergize with the SEO effort. By buying promotional services, they would essentially be buying advertising in order to make money off advertising—you see where that could be a problem?

Another way of looking at it: why wouldn’t I just create a site myself and keep all the profit from my efforts? In fact, most SEOs do have their own project sites, which are often monetized by Adsense. The money we could otherwise get from Adsense is one very low baseline for pricing our services. Legitimate SEO clients are typically selling goods or services at a profit rate that works out to ten or more times what they could get from Adsense.

In addition to the greedy, I also see a few other kinds of less common, but still problematic prospective SEO clients:

2. SEO-Starry-Eyed Clients: “Search engine traffic is definitely the best way for me to get pet-sitting clients in my tiny Himalayan village.”3. The Little-Knowledge-Is-a-Dangerous-Thing Client: “Don’t tell me about keyword research, content, anchor text, or natural linking strategy, just get me the PageRank (or links, keyword density, or whatever the fad is).”4. Gullible-and-Not-Letting-Go Client: “I know of at least two services that will submit my site to thousands of search engines for $29.95. If you can’t do that, I’ll take my business elsewhere.”5. I-Will-Never-Trust-SEO-But-I’ll-Consider-It-Anyway Client: “No one can guarantee a good search engine ranking so this is all pointless—I’ll just go with that $29.95 search engine submission package someone just emailed me about. At least it’s cheap.”

In short, if you are going to find good SEO web consultants, you need: 1) realistic expectations; 2) a realistic budget; 3) solid information. Don’t expect something for nothing, do a little reading, and it’s much less likely you’ll fall victim to bad SEOs.

4 Tips For Raising Your Search Engine Rankings

Search engine rankings are an important factor to consider when you have a web site that needs more traffic. If your web site doesn’t have a good position in the rankings then it will be hard to find.

Since most searchers click on the first few results, you need to make sure that your web site is ranked highly enough so that people can easily find it on the first page of search engine results. Although no search engine optimization company can guarantee a high rankings for your site permanently, often times hiring a web marketing company will pay off many times over. For those of you doing it yourself or those of you that want to ensure your marketing company is doing a good job, here are some tips for raising the search engine rankings of your web site.

1. Content

Content is an important factor in high search engine rankings. Make sure that you have plenty of content throughout your site with your target keywords in the articles. It’s also worth doing a search for web sites similar to yours and taking a look at their articles for ideas. Keywords are an important factor and they should be used throughout the content of your website.

2. Web Site URL

Your web site’s URL can help you rank higher with the search engines if it contains your keywords. However, don’t think that naming your site after your keywords will always help your rankings – you need to do more than just that. But still, it is one of the factors in improving a search engine ranking.

3. Search Terms

Search terms should be written out in text, instead of graphics. If you use pictures, be sure to give them alt tags. If you want a good rank in search engines then these things that may seem small should be considered, as search engines can read the text but not the graphics.

4. Page Title

The title of your page is very important, and if you choose the title properly then it can surely make a big difference in search engine ranking. Terms such ‘free article on safe children’s toys’, or ‘contact the children’s toy expert today’ are good to use as titles on pages containing such content. The titles themselves are very specific to the page and also may not have much competition being as specific as they are. The title area is the most important place to include your keyword phrases, so make sure that you utilize it.

Master these four tips and you’ll be on your way to getting free traffic. Look for other tips to keep your site moving up.
